Forum: general Subject: Best way to search archive

Hi, I'm new and I have a problem. My message board was one of the many lost when ezboard was hacked and I've lost nearly four years of messages.

Not just ideal chit chat either, the board served a community of new computer users and had dozens of guides specifically written for them and solutions to problems that couldn't be found else where.

I've found some pages in the archive but don't think I'm getting anything like all that's there. Does anyone have any advice for searching for a mass of pages like this?

Thanks in advance, my forum address is http://p066.ezboard.com/b2000friends

looks to me like there is just one page, plus most of the pages linked from that page.

If you have the url of a specific subpage, put that in the search box too.

Thanks for the reply. Since posting I've received a really helpful email from the archive which has answered a lot of my questions.

I've found the easiest way to search is use the Firefox "Way Back" extension, which produces an old version of the page and then follow the links within the page.

Sometimes these don't lead anywhere useful but often a desired page can be found by following a different route.

This really is a superb project and deserves wider recognition.

Thanks for the tip on the Wayback Firefox extension! Looks like it's at
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=318

Going to install now... There's also a Wayback Machine search engine choice you can add to that field in the upper right corner.

Turned out I didn't like the newer version of that Wayback extension, and with the older version installed it kept nagging me to update.

So, other good options are:
-The Wayback Machine Bookmarklet, see http://www.archive.org/web/web.php
which can go on the Bookmarks Toolbar.

-Diggler extension for Firefox, http://diggler.mozdev.org/
which has a Wayback option ("find page in Archive.org") simply as one cool feature among others- including clearing the location bar with one click!
